(Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) Continuing its string of successful senior level executive hiring, Saigon Asset Management (“SAM”) today announced the addition of an energy and resource expert, Mr. Kevin Flaherty. Mr. Flaherty will join the team as Managing Director of Energy and Natural Resources Investments.
Mr. Flaherty commented that, “The region’s power sector is expected to grow at a rate of 16% per year for the next decade and the multi-billion dollar investment commitments being made by international power companies within the region are a leading indicator of the attractiveness of this investment opportunity.”
Mr. Flaherty holds an MBA in Finance and has been active in Vietnam’s resource sector since 1996 as a resource company financier. His first foray into Vietnam came with the establishment of TSE listed Tiberon Minerals, as a Director and the Executive Vice President from 1996 until 2004. Tiberon discovered Vietnam’s Nui Phao tungsten deposit, and was later acquired by an Asian-based investment fund for $270.0 million. In 2004, Mr. Flaherty co-founded TSXV listed Keeper Resources with two oil & gas properties in Vietnam. This company was later acquired by an Asian-based investment fund for $60 million. In addition, Mr. Flaherty was a former independent director of TSE listed Olympus Pacific Minerals, Vietnam’s largest gold producer. Mr. Flaherty maintains offices in Vietnam and Laos.
Mr. Louis Nguyen, Chief Executive Officer of SAM, notes, “We are thrilled to have someone of Kevin’s caliber join us. He has established a long and distinguished track record in this region’s energy and natural resources sectors. With Kevin’s addition to the management team, we will be able to expand our investment focus in a specialized yet promising sector in the region. ”
